The restaurant in Disneyland Paris with one of the richest history and story, Café des Cascadeurs.
It all started back in September 1975 when a diner car opened in Westfield, called The Excellent Diner. Very quickly it was a favorite by lots of people and become a local icon.
But after 20 years of being a local favorite the owners sold The Excellent Diner to a German buyer in 1995. The new owner had it shipped overseas and wanted to make his dream a reality to be the first American-style diner in Germany.
The diner was brought to Aalen not far out from Stuttgart in Southern Germany. It arrived on a ferry on the Rhine. The diner became very populair in Germany too, but eventually the cost of maintains became to high. To make it even worse, a new highway was built leading traffic away from the diner. So time to sell.
And that’s where it gets interesting. They say the German sold the diner to EuroDisney, which is now Disneyland Paris.
On March 16, 2002, the diner opened once again its doors, but this time in Walt Disney’s Studio’s and with a brand new name, a refurbished exterior and brand new interior. Even though the inside got a make-over it is still completely 50’s style.
So, Café des Cascadeurs is the oldest restaurant in Disneyland Paris and one with a very rich history.
